The Process

Here is where I show my work.

Design Brief

I had my inspiration. I wanted to do “something”, I wanted to build a brand, that helped people. I started working on a brand identity. I started researching logo designs on YouTube and came across Will Patterson on YouTube and watched a few of his videos on getting logos designed from Fiverr so that he could review them. He also spoke about having a good design brief. I put one together here and looked for some graphic designers. As you can see the initial thought was to focus on leadership. That has evolved in the weeks since putting this together. I found a graphic designer and sent them this brief, then waited for their email.

Show Your Work!: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered

Through Ali’s recommendation, I picked up Austin Kleon’s Show Your Work!: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered. Well as you can tell by this very page on my website, I took his advice. I plan to do a full review of his works in the future. Again, has no idea who I am, just more inspiration for you.

Ali Abdaal

I came across Ali on just a random day scrolling through YouTube. I was hooked from minute one. I started to obsess over his content. He inspired me to do, something. So much of what I am trying to build with this brand is possible because of the motivation that he provided me to just start. He has no idea who I am, but maybe one day he will. Who knows.? If you are looking for some inspiration and motivation, check him out on YouTube here. If you are considering building a YouTube channel, Ali has a Part Time YouTube Academy (Grow your YouTube channel from 0 to 100,000+ subscribers and transform it into a sustainable, income-generating machine. Without quitting your day job). I haven’t gotten that far yet, but who knows what the future holds.

-Bring Strength to All

In 2019, I stumbled upon Apeman Strong. Mere words cannot express what this company means to me. I have never met the owners; I’ve never spoken to them, but I consider them my brothers. I wear this brand almost every day. I have purchased many of their shirts, banners, stickers, cards, shorts, water bottles, etc. I will support them to the end. The thought and care that goes into their brand is astounding.

The meaning behind each of their shirts is pure poetry. If you take the time to learn what they are all about, I guarantee that you will not only be a fan, but they will impact your life, just as they have impacted mine. Apeman Strong has played a huge role in inspiring me to build my own brand.

“APEMAN EXISTS TO INSPIRE AND EMPOWER PEOPLE TO OVERCOME THEIR MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL OBSTACLES THAT LIMIT THEIR POTENTIAL FOR GREATNESS.”

The Inception of the Logo

May 19, 2017, I was doodling at work and drew my logo idea on a yellow legal pad for something I was going to call “Grice Land”.

July 23, 2017, I searched YouTube to learn the very basics of Inkscape and rendered the logo on my PC.

My design process had a few layers. Obviously, there is the “G” & “L” in the logo. It is also a play on the Gordian Knot and thinking outside the box, which the L’s also made up.
